Duties may include some or all of the listed tasks (to be assigned by the Coordinator):A. tutor individually and/or in small groupsi. review/explain course and subject conceptsii. assist student with completion of course assignmentsiii. provide information about specific courses/instructors from personal experienceiv. model appropriate scholarly behaviors and attitudesB. teach and demonstrate study skills, applying them to tutored subjectsC. mentor high-risk students to promote academic success and retention in the TRIO program and at UCMD. facilitate and lead study groupsE. assist in advertising/promoting tutoring services to TRIO-eligible studentsF. assist students in TRIO lab with non-academic concernsG. attend meetings and trainingH. other duties as assigned by the Retention Specialist and/or Director.Minimum QualificationsOverall GPA: 3.0Course Hours (for subject tutored): 9 undergraduate credit hours at UCM in subject area with 3.0 Major GPAAbility to communicate effectively with students of various backgrounds and abilitiesInterview by TRIO-SSS Director and Retention SpecialistEducation and Formal TrainingHigh school diploma or equivalentComputer SkillsWord-Processing, Spreadsheet, PresentationExperienceCharacteristics of Successful ApplicantsOur tutors provide college knowledge and encouragement as well as subject knowledge. TRIO-SSS tutors are model students who can guide learners toward understanding through questioning and direction. Tutors should possess appropriate attitudes toward and ability to work with students who have a learning disability, a physical disability, or other characteristics that may impact or complicate learning.
