Essential Functions


Dr. Randall Bateman’s lab investigates the causes, and future diagnosis and treatments of Alzheimer’s disease utilizing a wide variety of assays and techniques from basic applications, such as quantitative measurement of stable-isotope labeled peptides to clinical translational studies in diagnostic and therapeutic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease. This position is responsible for collaborating with the principal investigator on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.


  1. Collaborates with the principal investigator on the design, conduct and reporting of research projects.
  2. Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing them.
  3. Develops and troubleshoots protein purification/ immunoprecipitation protocols to optimize yield, purity, and throughput. Solves practical problems relating to difficulties with equipment or test subjects. Suggests and implements technical or procedural improvements in testing methods.
  4. Performs complex statistical analysis of data collected and writes interpretative reports. Verifies the correctness of the data submitted and makes recommendations based on these analyses.
  5. Prepares and submits papers on research.
  6. Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
  7. Assists with managing lab staff, including research technicians, students, and other staff scientists.
  8. Manages research projects with other institutions and investigators.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D. or an equivalent terminal degree and at least three years of postdoctoral experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in mass spectrometry-based applications.
  • Experience with automated benchwork.
  • Experience with analytical chemistry or GLP.
  • Analytical reasoning and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret statistical data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.
  • High precision and tight quality control of all bench experiments.
  • Excellent scientific writing and oral communication skills.
  • Detail oriented.
  • Able to work independently yet collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Computer literacy, including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $53,830 - $72,675 annually.
