Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. This position will involve on call weekends on a rotation basis. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pathology & Immunology, Division of Neuropathology. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments, including documentation and preparation of materials. Where appropriate, training will be provided. This position will report to the principal investigator of a neuropathology core laboratory facility. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Prepares histology sections by processing brain tissue and embedding, staining, and cutting prepared sections. 2. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment. 3. Stores and retrieves specimens from storage locations. 4. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research. 5. Prepares solutions, reagents, probe tests, etc., with human brain specimens. 6. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 7. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures. 8. Assists with general lab maintenance and cleaning. 9. Participates in weekly lab meeting. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years. Preferred Qualifications * Prior laboratory experience or equivalent expertise in neuroanatomy, pathology, or biochemistry. * Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators. * Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
