Essential Functions


This position assists with the technical aspects of studies and experiments that focus on Alzheimer’s disease pathogenesis and circadian system function.


  1. Assists with circadian and memory experiments, which involve mouse behavior monitoring and analysis, as well as, small animal procedures that require compliance with established protocols and procedures.
  2. Assists with research studies, experiments and assays, including collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
  3. Assists with the management of a mouse colony, including mouse handling, setting up breeding cages, weaning, and genotyping by PCR. Keeps detailed, organized, and updated records of the colony.
  4. Performs neuroanatomy experiments which involve the procurement of tissue, sectioning, immunohistochemical staining, and the analysis of histological samples.
  5. Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory protocols, daily tasks, and databases.
  6. Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned, organized, and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  7. Comes in occasionally (at maximum two to three times a month, for four to five hours) during the evening or on weekends to assist with specific time of day circadian experiments. We will schedule this together at least a week in advance.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and up to one year of experience in a laboratory setting or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling four years.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in biological sciences and prior laboratory experience and/or coursework.
  • Experience handing/working with mice.
  • Experience with some of the following techniques: PCR, immunohistochemistry, small animal procedures, dissection, and sectioning.
  • Careful attention to detail, excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of basic biology laboratory techniques (e.g. pipetting), computer software and general lab equipment.
  • Ability to work cohesively in a group setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $14.07 - $18.99 per hour.
