Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Ob/Gyn. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The England Lab is seeking a motivated candidate to engage in NIH-funded research and manage a broad research portfolio in a laboratory focusing on the molecular and electrical pathways underlying parturition. Our work has been on the forefront of understanding the role of both sodium and potassium channels in regulating uterine excitability. Our studies utilize a variety of methodologies, and both mouse and human models to understand the basic channel biology that underlie the process of labor. The Research Assistant will be joining the Center for Reproductive Health Sciences within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, the latter of which includes a number of federally funded laboratories and a strong research infrastructure in both basic and clinical investigation in reproductive health. This position assists with research studies, experiments, preparation of materials, and documentation. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Conducts research experiments and assays focused on understanding uterine activity during pregnancy and how aberrant activity leads to poor pregnancy outcomes in both human and mouse models. 2. Evaluates laboratory research results, reports research findings and discusses project outcomes with laboratory staff, trainees, the PI and collaborators. 3. Presents research in lab meetings and participates in journal clubs and data presentations. 4. Performs data entry and maintains meticulous research notes and records. 5. Helps with general laboratory duties, including cell culture, ordering, coordinating regulatory information, and preparing reagents. 6. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions. 7. Coordinates research projects with other institutions and investigators. 8. Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it. 9. Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning. 10. Performs literature searches on specified topics. Required Qualifications Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with two to three years of experience in laboratory operations. Preferred Qualifications * Prior experience with tissue culture and handling mice. * Proficiency in basic molecular biology techniques, including DNA, RNA, Protein isolation, PCR, reverse transcription PCR, Immunoblot, and ELISA. * Experience with immunohistochemistry. * Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research, and record findings, with a keen interest in women’s health. * Expertise in reproductive biology and/or ion channel biology. * Ability to work in a diverse and inclusive environment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.
