This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.

Essential Functions

POSITION SUMMARY:

The position assists with research studies, experiments, preparation of material, and documentation. The primary focus of the work will be to generate molecular reagents required for direct reprogramming of fibroblasts to neurons, conducting cell reprogramming experiments, and assisting with the lab’s ongoing project on modeling Huntington’s disease using patient-derived neurons.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conducts research experiments and assays.
  2. Evaluates research results, reporting findings and discussing project outcomes with staff involved.
  3. Performs data entry and maintains data files on research.
  4. Coordinates tissue cultures, reagents, probe tests, etc.
  5. Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  6. Coordinates research project with other institutions and investigators.
  7. Participates in developing hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
  8. Assists with general supply/equipment orders, lab maintenance and cleaning.
  9. Performs literature searches on specified topics.

Required Qualifications

Equivalent of a bachelor’s degree with two to three years of experience in laboratory operations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of experience in molecular biology (subcloning, transgene generation, gene expression analysis) and tissue culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement general laboratory procedures, conduct research, and record findings, with focus on pursuit of advanced education in field.

Salary Range

The hiring range for this position is $15.46 - $20.88 per hour.

Department Summary

The department’s research is highly diverse and includes topics ranging from embryogenesis, cell reprogramming and organogenesis to aging and stem cell engineering. Our ongoing and future work will focus on new and emerging areas of developmental biology, such as epigenetics and genomics.

This position works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological and chemical hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.
