Washington University of St. Louis Radiation Oncology in St. Louis, Missouri
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.
Department Name/Job Location
This position is in the Department of Radiation Oncology. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
A position is available in Dr. Carl DeSelm’s group to work on CAR T-cells for solid tumors. Our ultimate goal is to develop new cures for cancer patients by modifying immune cells. Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy has dramatically improved the long-term survival of relapsed/refractory leukemia patients, demonstrating that we can achieve new levels of cure for aggressive and otherwise terminal cancers using this strategy. We are specifically working to extend this technology to a wider range of cancers. The laboratory is currently utilizing screening techniques to test the efficacy of various new CARs against solid tumors (currently pancreatic cancer, breast cancer, glioblastoma, and prostate cancer). These techniques require handling many different types of tumor cell lines in culture, and many plates of cells, over the course of each experiment.
This position is responsible for assisting with laboratory duties in a research setting and performs routine tests with direction from supervisor, manager or higher level technician.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists investigator or higher level technician with research studies, experiments and assays including cell culture, collection of data, preparation of solutions and set-up and maintenance of equipment.
