A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Anthony French to study dysregulated innate immunity in pediatric patients with immunodeficiencies and autoimmunity. The French laboratory is particularly interested in delineating innate immune defects in patients with unusually severe and/or recurrent herpesvirus infections and innate immune signaling defects in pediatric patients with autoimmune disorders such as juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM) and systemic juvenile idiopathic arthritis (sJIA).
Using cutting edge, high dimensional techniques including mass cytometry (CyTOF), RNA-seq, and whole exome sequencing, the laboratory has a number of patients at different stages of evaluation. The laboratory recently published a manuscript (Throm et al., JCI Insight 2018) describing defects in phospholipase C-gamma 2 (PLCG2) signaling in NK cells in 17 treatment naïve JDM patients compared to 17 healthy pediatric controls which manifests in decreased NK cell calcium flux. This position would build on ongoing studies in the laboratory to understand the mechanistic underpinnings and functional implications of the dysregulation of PLCG2 phosphorylation in these JDM patients, with the goal of developing strategies to mitigate the impact of this innate immune signaling defect in JDM patients.
- PhD, MD, or equivalent terminal doctoral degree.
- Candidates should have experience in immunology as well as cellular and molecular biology.
- The applicant should possess strong written and oral communication skills as well as demonstrated ability to implement laboratory protocols, independently conduct and interpret research experiments, and document research findings.
- The candidate should be highly motivated, creative, and be able to work both independently and within a team.
- Experience with tissue culture, flow cytometry, and cellular functional assays would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with basic statistical analysis and R is desirable.
Base pay commensurate with experience.
