This position is in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Endocrinology. This position is for the Medical School Campus.

Essential Functions


A postdoctoral fellow position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Thompson to study molecular mechanisms of liver disease with a particular focus on the impact of parental diet in development of liver disease in offspring. The postdoctoral fellow will utilize animal models to carry out these studies which will include evaluation of epigenetic and microbiome mediated mechanisms to describe phenotype. This position will build on recent studies, as well as present the opportunity to identify new directions in the lab.


Trains under the supervision of a faculty mentor, including (but not limited to):

  1. Manages their own project, which should lead to a first author publication.
  2. Develops proficiency in their chosen scientific discipline/field.
  3. Develops proficiency in their technical skills.
  4. Develops proficiency in their ancillary skills, e.g. writing, public speaking, networking, critical evaluation of scientific documents, etc.
  5. Presents scientific work both inside and outside the University.
  6. Assists with grant preparation and reporting.
  7. Prepares and submits papers on research.
  8. Assists in the design of research experiments.
  9. Evaluates research findings and assists in the reporting of the results.
  10. Maintains conscientious discharge of their research responsibilities.
  11. Maintains conformity with ethical standards in research.
  12. Maintains compliance with good laboratory practice, including the maintenance of adequate research records.
  13. Engages in open and timely discussion with their mentor regarding possession or distribution of material, reagents, or records belonging to their laboratory and any proposed disclosure of findings or techniques privately or in publications.
  14. Maintains collegial conduct towards co-trainees, staff members and members of the research group.
  15. Adheres to all applicable University policies, procedures and regulations. All data, research records and materials and other intellectual property generated in University laboratories remain the property of the University.

Required Qualifications

Ph.D., M.D., or an equivalent terminal or doctoral degree.

Preferred Qualifications

Demonstrated ability to implement laboratory procedures, conduct research and records findings.

Salary Range

Base pay commensurate with experience.
