Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Pathology & Immunology, Division of Cytogenetics. The position is located at Cortex One. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: Under administrative direction, oversees clinical and operational success of the clinical genomics laboratory and the clinical diagnostic testing outreach program. Manages all phases of marketing in conjunction with central department administration with an emphasis on market development and product launch and support. Supports laboratory training program for master's level clinical technologists. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Collaborates with directors, laboratory staff, and LIS staff to optimize laboratory infrastructure. 2. Recruits, hires, and manages laboratory staff. 3. Builds and supervises the establishment of critical molecular diagnostic clinical assays to support clinical research, clinical trials, and translational research projects; assists in genetic and genomic assay design, optimization and validation. 4. Communicates with internal and external agencies, e.g. CAP, CLIA, IRB, to ensure compliance with all regulatory agencies governing patient service delivery and the rules of accrediting bodies. Monitors operations, programs and physical properties, initiating appropriate changes to ensure laboratory quality and compliance. Tracks and reports on quality control and quality assurance metrics for affiliated clinical genomics laboratories in partnership with Performance Improvement Consultant and Patient Safety Coordinator. 5. Analyzes, recommends, and implements process/ productivity action plans to enhance laboratory operational effectiveness. 6. Develops and maintains knowledge of current genetics testing market conditions and trends. Prepares analysis and makes recommendations. 7. Collaborates with central department administration to create and execute strategies, plans, and management systems for market development: awareness development, sales programs, physician education programs, communications and public relations. 8. Represents WUSM Department of Pathology and Immunology at external meetings, both through scientific presentations and distribution/representation of marketing materials. Performs biomedical literature review, in support of scholarly publications, variant assessment and reanalysis (curation), maintenance of laboratory databases, and formal presentations at WUSM and national venues. 9. Provides input to the selection and development of new diagnostic products. Articulates product clinical applications and benefits to external scientific community. 10. Supports development of curriculum and training for ASCP certified laboratory technologists enrolled in the Clinical Genomics training program. 11. Coordinates education for faculty and trainees in the area of clinical genomics, next generation sequencing (NGS) operations, and training and qualification for NGS software application(s) that manage NGS testing workflows. This position requires expertise in CLIA- and College of American Pathologist (CAP)- compliant molecular diagnostic testing, human genetics, and DNA sequence variant assessment. Other Functions: 1. Required Qualifications * Master's degree in biology and/or chemistry with five (5) years related experience required or equivalent combination of education and experience. * Laboratory experience establishing and maintaining CAP/CLIA certification and regulatory guidelines required. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Preferred Qualifications * PhD preferred. * Knowledge of human genetics and disease associations. * Strong working knowledge of clinical genomics, development of diagnostics, and experience marketing clinical tests to the scientific community. * Effective interpersonal and leadership skills with ability to interact with physicians, technical personnel, and administration. * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including strong presentation skills. * Attentiveness to detail and ability to define and execute multiple projects. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $75,358 - $96,096 annually.
