The Field Technician I (FT1) is a trainee who conducts investigations and small maintenances on existing structures either above grade or below grade. They will be required to utilize a variety of tools and equipment to accomplish their job and will travel very frequently in support of field projects. Depending on job assignment, they may need to climb to heights exceeding 500 feet following requisite training and certifications. The FT1 will work almost exclusively outdoors and therefore must be ready to work in all varieties of weather.


  • Support execution of field services.

  • Work with focus on safety, accuracy and speed.

  • Conduct on-site inspections/investigations, including surveys and documentation of existing conditions, field-testing, photographing, and sketching.

  • Provide the field investigations and observations in clear and concise notes and photos.

  • Physical ability to lift 50 + lbs., climb vertically with an additional 50 – 75 lbs. attached to your climbing gear for 60 – 80 ft. distances at a time, and be comfortable working in an outdoor environment in all types of weather.

  • Physical ability and the willingness to climb towers in excess of 500 feet.

  • Ability to obtain applicable tower climbing certifications, (ComTrain, Rescue, RF, First-Aid, etc)

  • Utilize excavation equipment to assist in on-site investigations.

  • Setup and utilize data acquisition equipment.

  • Ability to be covered by company auto insurance plan (e.g. Good Driving Record - No DUI's or suspensions within the last 5 years and no more than 2 traffic violations (with less than 3pts. max on each violation) in the past 3 years).

  • Communicate technical and logistical needs for production.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.

  • Associates Degree in Engineering (Structural, Civil, Geotechnical, Mechanical or related field), preferred.

  • Experience in computer programs including MS Office and AutoCAD.

  • Willingness to work beyond normal working hours and in other positions temporarily as required to complete the work.

  • Adherence to all policies and procedures of FDH.

  • Communication skills needed to interact with management and staff.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and sketches.

  • Ability to work under demanding pressure and stress.

  • Ability to maintain high confidentiality.

  • Ability to write reports and business correspondences.

  • Ability to maintain an effective working relationship with workers, other department employees, clients and the general public.

  • Performance of other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to travel extensively out of state and for extended periods of time (travel required is 100% and includes weekends and overnight).

  • Because FDH-IS performs work on military bases, YOU WILL NEED MILITARY BASE ACCESS TO PERFORM THE ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION. Military base access is granted by the U.S. military and not FDH-IS, and requires passage of a federal background check administered by the U.S. military.
