We are seeking exceptionally talented individual with a passion for innovation to lead a data science team in our Global Analytics Team within the Breeding Organization. The global analytics team is a cutting edge group that analyzes big data to develop predictive/prescriptive models to accelerate Bayer’s product development. As part of our diverse, highly dynamic group, you will be driving big data challenges and will lead a team of exceptional data scientists with diverse backgrounds (Mathematicians, Statisticians and Engineers) to foster your career growth and development while delivering next-generation scientific breakthroughs. You will provide strategic technical and project leadership in a fast paced R&D team environment to accelerate our efforts on building a data-driven product pipeline
Driving big data challenges in our diverse, highly dynamic group.
Providing technical contributions in a fast-paced R&D team environment to accelerate our efforts on building a data-driven product pipeline.
Using latest advances in machine learning, predictive analytics and optimization algorithms. Identify and drive the development and deployment of new methodologies globally, to accelerate our pipeline and product development efforts
Predicting and optimizing our product pipeline and improve probability of success of our products.
Developing sustainable, consumable, accurate, and impactful reporting on model inputs, model outputs, observed outputs, business impact, and key performance indicators.
Communicating research with peers, and with appropriate calibration to stakeholders in small and large group settings. Acquiring support and partnership from cross functional teams in the company, including engineering and IT teams at Bayer globally.
PhD -OR- Master’s Degree with 3+ years in industry experience in Animal or Plant Breeding, Quantitative Genetics, Statistical Genetics, Statistics, Biostatistics, or related field.
Strong programming skilsl (R, Python or Scala)
Deep understanding of genomic prediction modeling and/or model machine learning techniques and their mathematical underpinning
2+ year experience in SQL development skills writing queries.
Proven ability to tailor machine learning algorithms and/or complex linear mixed models (GBLUP, Bayesian Genome-wide Regression, Ensembles, Deep Learning, etc.) to business problems in cross functional team.
Proven ability to communicate complex qualitative analysis in clear, precise and actionable manner.
Proficiency in at least one complied language (i.e. C/C++, Java, Fortran and etc.).
Proficiency in complex matrix algebra and high dimensional predictive models (thousands+ of features).
2+ years of experience with data visualization tools.
Experience productionizing machine learning/statistical model is a plus.
5+ years experience with building R/Python packages with foreign language interfaces.
Experience with distributed computing and big data platforms
Experience with working in Linux environment and/or AWS.
Experience with linear mixed model software/packages (ASREML, lme4, BLUPF90 and etc.).
Experience with machine learning and deep learning packages (i.e. TensorFlow, Keras etc.).
