Monsanto Computational Protein Engineer / Data Scientist Intern in ST. LOUIS, Missouri

The Data Science Analytics Team is seeking a motivated Computational Protein Engineer / Data Scientist Intern. The position will be located in Chesterfield, Missouri, reporting to our Computational Protein Design Lead.

We develop proteins for agricultural products by utilizing advanced analytics, rational and combinatorial design, and protein biophysical properties.

Dates for this internship are May 13-August 2 of 2019.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing protein variants with improved target properties for project teams

  • Increasing the understanding of protein design/structure/function relationships on project teams – ultimately leading to the increased efficiency of our protein engineering program.

  • Developing strategies for utilizing advanced analytics and machine learning in protein design

Required Skills/Experiences:

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student with a minimum of three years completed of a Biochemistry, Computational Biology, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology or related program.

  • Ability to script and program in a modern programming language.

Preferred Skills/Experiences:

  • Experience with large, complex datasets

  • Working knowledge of machine learning algorithms

  • Knowledge of wet lab techniques in protein biochemistry

  • Working knowledge of experimental design and statistical methods

  • Experience with R and Python programming languages

  • Strong knowledge of the experimental and computational aspects of protein structure/function and engineering

  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), with a proven ability to convey complex ideas in a clear, precise, and actionable manner to diverse teams at all levels of the organization
