Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Ability to work flexible hours as needed especially late night shifts to conduct patient specific quality assurance. Department Name/Job Location This position is in the Department of Radiation Oncology Physics Division. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The Clinical Physicist Assistant assists the Clinical Physicists in the general medical physics duties pertaining to operating a radiotherapy clinic. There has been great success with our CPAs later being accepted into residency programs or other careers in Medical Physics. The general responsibilities of the CPA includes machine and patient specific quality assurance (QA), development and implementation of new technology and process, participation in the acceptance testing and commissioning of a new treatment machine, etc. The individual will work under the direct supervision of a faculty board-certified or non-board certified clinical physicist. PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs patient specific QA measurements. Performs measurements in phantom using film, ionization chambers, portal dosimetry for the purpose of treatment plan dose verification. 2. Performs special in-vivo dosimetry measurements using TLD or diodes. 3. Performs daily, weekly and monthly QA checks under direction of clinical physicist. This includes performing annual machine calibrations and/or annual simulator reviews. 4. Assists with implementation of new therapeutic treatment procedures: 1. Follows instructions of a medical physicist on gathering of specific commissioning data and measurements for treatment machines. 2. Follows instructions of a medical physicist on evaluation and verification of specific functions for a particular technology. 3. Performs validation measurements for new technology and processes. 4. Develops, validates, and documents testing and QA procedures for new technology and processes. 5. Develops training materials for new technology and processes. 6. Provides training to other staff and faculty on specific technology and processes. 5. Management of QA equipment. 6. Adheres to all Physics QA procedures and policies. 7. Participates in research and development projects under the supervision of Chief of Quality Assurance. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in physics, mathematics, engineering, computer science or related science degree is required. No prior experience in medical physics necessary. Preferred Qualifications * Master's or Ph.D. degree is preferred. * Ability to work as part of an integrated care and process team. * Ability to manage time and prioritize work flow. * Technical problem solving. * Excellent communication skills. * Excellent computer skills. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $24.65 - $31.43 per hour.
