Job Type/Schedule This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week. Department Name/Job Location This position is for the Department of Ob/Gyn. This position is for the Medical School Campus. Essential Functions POSITION SUMMARY: The position will participates in clinical and translational research study activities – organizing the Gynecologic Oncology biospecimen bank collection, performing routine and/or special assays on biospecimens, and documenting clinical data for clinical research trials. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Performs routine assays according to laboratory standard operating procedures, including instrument maintenance and minor troubleshooting; may perform special assays with supervision. Demonstrates a general understanding of assay methods and clinical relevance; participates in relevant continuing education. 2. Organizes the collection of biospecimens across clinical and translational research studies (both single and multi-site studies), and tissue banking protocols - performs routine and/or specials assays, stores, and ships biospecimens while compiling with protocol requirements and laboratory standard operating procedures. 3. Completes all necessary paperwork/documentation according to study protocols, performs data entry and maintains data files on research utilizing database systems, spreadsheet, and word processing programs, may assist with MTAs. 4. Recognizes problem situations and participates in problem solving; informs supervisor of unusual situations and requests technical assistance. 5. Operates and maintains centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, computers, copiers and other basic laboratory and office equipment. Cleans glassware and distributes to analytical areas. Stocks work area. Maintains general laboratory cleanliness. Follows all laboratory safety requirements. 6. May assist with validation of new assays; compiles data for supervisory review; utilizes database, spreadsheet, and word processing programs. 7. Complies with all regulatory and client requirements for testing and documentation. 8. May assist with consenting subjects to bio-banking protocols. 9. Assists supervisor with other duties and special projects as needed. 10. Participates in on call specimen processing and freezer fail program. Required Qualifications Associate degree (Medical Lab Technician or related scientific degree). Preferred Qualifications * Bachelor’s degree in physical life science and clinical laboratory experience; experience in an academic research lab setting. * Extraordinary attention to detail and meticulous organizational skills to ensure adherence to protocols is essential. * Multitasking abilities. * Ability to learn fast and apply new methods and improvements in practice. * Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders including faculty, staff, outside institutions. * Experience in clinical data and specimen collection. * Demonstrated ability to perform tasks in an organized and systematic manner. * Ability to work independently. * Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment. Salary Range The hiring range for this position is $17.58 - $21.98 per hour.
