Position Summary The Sr. Microbiologist/Microbiologist III is accountable for driving results in a fast-paced environment by performing routine microbial analyses, focusing on multiple assays for which the Sr. Microbiologist/Microbiologist III is proficient. Performs tests on water, test articles and the environment to detect harmful microorganisms and to obtain information on types and levels of microbial contamination. The Microbiologist III examines physiological, morphological and cultural characteristics, using microscope and other relevant equipment, to identify and classify microorganisms in test articles. Isolates and makes cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in prescribed media, controlling moisture, aeration, temperature and nutrition. The Sr. Microbiologist/Microbiologist III studies the impact of microorganisms on products and evaluates the impact of microbial control strategies on microorganism survival. When necessary, the Sr. Microbiologist/Microbiologist III may fill in for some duties of a Supervisor and will often serve as a mentor to team members. Essential Functions * Performs laboratory work related to analytical testing and method development in support of contract pharmaceuticals. * Maintains/prepares microorganism cultures used in testing procedures. * Performs compendial Microbial Limit, Antimicrobial Effectiveness, Antibiotic, Disinfectant Efficacy, Sterility Testing, BET, Microbial Ingress, Particle Testing, Microbial Identifications, and other testing as required. * Prepares media and reagents as needed. * Evaluates, interprets and doucments generated data. * Analyzes information for technical correctness and accuracy. * Understands the theoretical basis of the methods/experiments. * Works on problems of diverse scope in which analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. * Writes standard operating procedures SOPs, test procedures, specifications and summary reports. * Supports OOS, OOT and Laboratory investigations. * Trains others in basic techniques and procedures. * Maintains working knowledge of instrumentation, equipment, and scientific methodologies necessary to perform assigned tasks. * Maintains a safe, clean, and organized work environment free of safety hazards. * Ensures timely completion and compliance with cGMP and all other relevant company training requirements Education and Experience * Bachelor s degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biology, Microbiology or a related field with coursework in Microbiology. * 5+ years of related work experience. * Previous pharmacutical experience strongly preferred. * Previous GMP experience strongly preferred.
