SSM Health Lead Data Scientist in Saint Louis, Missouri


  • Guides interpretation of data and results. Implements advanced statistical approaches. Develops, maintains, and collects unstructured data sets for analysis and reporting.

  • Transforms a data-driven work product into comprehensive narrative structure that tells the whole story of the analysis for stakeholders.

  • Maintains source code repository of scripts (SQL, Python, R, etc.) and other data products (dashboards, reports, etc.), including documentation for version control.

  • Provides governance and best practices of data structures, data integrity, privacy, security, and querying. Provides statistical mentoring and methodological support.

  • Influences department strategy on data science and other functional areas.

  • Owns strategic projects autonomously. Coaches and develops talent. Leads junior talent in delivering on business-critical initiatives.

  • Designs, implements and enhances ETL/ELT (extract, transform, and load) processes, including valid and reliable documentation.

  • Advises executives to develop functional strategies (often segment specific) on matters of significance.

  • Uses independent judgment performing analyses and determines the best course of action. Exercises independent judgment and decision making on complex issues regarding job duties and related tasks and works under minimal supervision.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience


  • Eight years’ experience


  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.

  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.

  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.

  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.

  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.

  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.

  • Rare climbing.
