Position Summary

The Senior Facilities Engineer is a member of the Facilities Engineering Team. The position is responsible for helping maintain and remodel existing facilities, coordinate capital projects, new equipment specification and selection and providing engineering support to the KCM maintenance department. The Senior Facilities Engineer will have a strong focus on facility and equipment projects.

Position will report to the Sr. Manager of Engineering who is a Missouri licensed P.E. and will serve as a mentor. As such, this assignment meets the supervision requirements for an Engineer in Training working towards a Professional Engineering license if applicant has not obtained P.E. License at time of hire.

In concert with Catalent’s Patient First philosophy, this role is paramount to ensure the quality and compliance of our facility and equipment projects which will ultimately yield safe, high quality drug products for patients.

The Role

  • Capital Project Management including: scope definition, creation of high level design options, project cost estimation, preparation of Capital Authorization Requests (CAR) documents, contractor/equipment selection and project execution management ensuring compliance to scope, cost and schedule.

  • Prepare requests for quotation based on User Requirements Specifications (URS) for multiple bidders for facility projects. Review bids and recommend vendor(s) for selection for equipment projects.

  • Work with operations, validation, process development and quality functions to provide support for the design, installation, start-up, validation and operation of facility and or process equipment.

  • Stay current on existing technology by meeting with vendors and manufacturers in order to evaluate new equipment and procedures.

  • Participates in the investigation and resolution of product quality problems resulting from utility and/or equipment malfunctions.

  • Executes work in compliance with GMPs, site policies, work instructions, and SOPs. Maintain effectiveness of the Quality System components relevant to this position.

  • Position will take ownership of one or more of the KCM utility systems from a troubleshooting, change control and day to day engineering support role.

  • Engineer will be expected to further knowledge and gain first-hand experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing and packaging processes through training and hands on assignments with Operations team during the manufacture and packaging processes.

The Candidate

Education:

  • BS in engineering

  • P.E. preferred, EIT or FE considered

Experience:

  • 7-10 years of experience in development, manufacturing or packaging for clinical/commercial drug products or combination products in a cGMP controlled environment or regulated industry.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

  • Ability to troubleshoot simple to complex process and equipment problems high level of attention to detail, strong mechanical aptitude, strong problem solving and analytical skills.

  • Working knowledge of project management and drafting software including; AutoCAD Inventor, CAD and MS Project is a plus

  • Knowledge regarding design control, documentation, risk management and processes such as FMEA, Design Verification, and URS is a plus.

  • Knowledge of change control and validation required including experience with equipment FAT, Commissioning, IQ, OQ, PQ, and development of qualification protocols/reports for packaging and shipping activities.

  • Demonstrates flexibility in organizing work and priorities. Demonstrated ability to plan and independently implement multiple projects.
