We seek a technically proficient environmental scientist/geologist with the ability to lead/supervise a team of environmental professionals to support a growing Class 1 Railroad wastewater, compliance and remediation account. This position will help to manage the day to day operations for two large rail facility’s wastewater plants, act as back up operator and help to progress the work to include and support environmental compliance and remediation, eventually helping to expand operations in the Midwest area. This position will organize data in a clear fashion using basic tools (spreadsheets, graphs), and the desire to learn and apply new tools, models, and methods. This position requires advanced knowledge of client specific, wastewater operations, environmental and remediation principles, including the ability to identify and research methods for environmental sites with wastewater, waste, stormwater, soils and groundwater contamination using in-situ, ex-situ, and innovative technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for aspects of projects throughout the lifecycle of the project from operations and studies through the design, construction, operating, maintenance, and monitoring phases.
This position will include conducting and coordinating project work and project team as required, preparation of project documents to identify, evaluate, and recommend specific remedies, environmental permitting, preparation of client specific and remedial design reports, plans, and specifications, development of operations, maintenance, and monitoring plans, oversight of construction, and oversight of potential compliance and remedial operations, maintenance and monitoring activities as awarded.
The Operation of the WWTPs include the following:
Operating the WWTP such that it meets the required discharge limits during routine influent and treatment conditions outlined in the NPDES Permit.
Operating the WWTP in a safe and professional manner, including maintaining required training and certifications including e-RAILSAFE, Contractor Orientation, Roadway Worker Protection, and state requirements for private WWTP operators (including Class 1 Operators license).
Confirming proper operation and testing of the WWTP after repairs, maintenance or cleaning.
Participating in client’s Wastewater Best Way program, Monthly WWTP Operator calls, and annual WW Conference.
Perform all inspections utilizing the client’s EAM system.
Perform routine cleaning of the IAF and API OWS associated with operations of the WWTP.
Coordinating and/or assisting with WWTP repairs, maintenance, and cleaning utilizing the EAM system.
Additional responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, those listed below:
Read, understand, and follow published test methods and standard operating procedures, including company and client specific programs
Produce accurate and complete documentation of operation, inspections and compliance according to standard operating procedures
Show initiative in maintaining and repairing equipment, ordering and organizing supplies and maintaining work area
Effectively work both independently and in a team environment
Effectively communicate with site representatives regarding schedules and task requirements
Applicants must be willing to be on call.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Geology, Hydrogeology, or related degree
10+ years relevant work experience in environmental management, wastewater, compliance and remediation, including preparation of project documents, remedial design, remedial action, wastewater and remedial operations and maintenance, installing wastewater treatment and remediation systems, preparing work plans, and pilot testing.
Valid Driver’s License
Current 40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER certification, with 8-hour Refresher
Working knowledge of environmental regulations, such as those related to CERCLA, RCRA, TSCA, and CWA (NPDES, SPCC, etc.), Voluntary Remediation, Petroleum, and other programs. Specific experience and knowledge with the NDEQ should be highlighted.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team and write technical reports
Must pass a State and Federal criminal history/security background check; many projects/ clients are security sensitive.
Must be able to successfully complete initial and random screening requirements including drug, breathalyzer, urine and/or hair test.
Must participate in and successfully complete a post-offer, pre-employment fitness for duty questionnaire.
Must possess a valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Candidate must be able to meet the medical clearance requirements of an OSHA (HAZWOPER) medical surveillance physical examination.
Aptitude for operation and maintenance of mechanical and electrical equipment
Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel
Ability to record data neatly, accurately, and legibly
Due to nature of the work U.S. Citizenship is required
Professional Engineer (PE) registration, Professional Geologist (PG), or ability to obtain within 6 months required
Knowledge of Class 1 Railroad operations or railroad experience
Certified Nebraska Wastewater Treatment Operator
