Overview

Performs routine and preventive maintenance on electronic medical equipment and clinical equipment in a hospital. Performs a variety of tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of biomedical equipment with minimal supervision. Has a comprehensive knowledge level and experienced in most or all facets of job. Possesses an intermediate level of expertise and is capable of assisting less experienced technicians. Demonstrates ability to learn from others on the job and can teach basic skills to BMET I technicians. Optionally can mentor others in basic skills and possesses comprehensive understanding and skills related to general electro-mechanical systems and devices. Demonstrates a mastery of skills and tasks associated with the installation, maintenance, calibration, and repair of complex biomedical equipment. Capable of educating others including clinical staff related to the technical integration of the device/system. Fully experienced with an exceptional skill set or knowledge, works with minimal supervision; capable of serving as a trainer, mentor to junior and mid-level staff. Capable of performing in a lead capacity. In-depth understanding of common clinical terminology as well as that of life sciences such as anatomy and physiology. Comprehensive understanding of computers and network architecture. Adept at learning on the job as well as teaching and mentoring others. Optionally has developed mastery to the level that they can mentor other mentors. Considered a 'Subject Matter Expert' on high-acuity clinical devices and systems in specialized acute care areas. Possesses advanced understanding and skills related to general electromechanical systems and devices.

Responsibilities

  • Performs repairs on high risk , single and multi component, single unit, medical equipment. This equipment is considered specialized patient care equipment that poses danger or misdiagnosis to a patient and where backup equipment is not available..

  • Perform scheduled PM or safety testing in those areas assigned as primary areas of responsibility.

  • Receives training on equipment in order to perform the service duties required.

  • Coordinates outside services.

  • Orders replacement parts as parts are used from inventory, orders parts to complete repairs of down equipment.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or equivalent and 5-7 years experience At this level of employment the individual would be expected with only a short period of time (six months) be familiar enough with the hospital to assume responsibility for servicing several types of equipment generally found in a hospital and familiar with enough types to assume servicing of some the areas of the hospital with minimal training.

  • Associates degree preferred in electronics or similar background

  • DOT Physical Required Upon Hire

  • DRIV LIC KS Licensed Driver KS (only one required; depends on state residency) Required Upon Hire

  • DRIV LIC MO Licensed Driver MO (only one required; depends on state residency) Required Upon Hire

  • AAMI ICC Certification Preferred
