Description
Burns & McDonnell’s Environmental Services practice is seeking an entry-level (0 to 2 years professional experience) Assistant GIS Specialist for its Kansas City, Missouri office location. This position will involve:
Map production in accordance with standards and industry best practices using ArcGIS software.
Preparation and use of GIS data for analysis.
GIS data conversion/migration.
Editing and creating GIS data in a geodatabase environment.
Developing and supporting GIS workflows.
Researching and preparing environmental reports and assessments.
Field surveys as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must be self-motivated, detail-oriented, capable of working independently, and able to collaborate in a team setting and have strong analytical and problem solving skills.
Bachelor's degree in GIS, geography, environmental science, or closely related natural science field from accredited program required.
Familiarity and prior experience (1 to 2 years) working in the ArcGIS software environment is required (ArcGIS Desktop 10.0 or higher and ArcGIS Pro a plus).
Experience creating custom geoprocessing workflows in Model Builder, Python, and FME is highly preferred.
Excellent GIS skills, including data analysis abilities, cartography experience, and familiarity with field collection applications a plus.
Prior experience working with Lidar datasets a plus.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical and problem solving skills, and proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite.
Prior GPS and applicable natural science field experience a plus.
