3M is seeking a Sr. Manufacturing Technology Engineer for the Separation and Purification Sciences Division (SPSD) located in Columbia, MO. At 3M, you can apply your talent in bold ways that matter. Here, you go.

Job Summary:

3M SPSD is a leader in the design, manufacture, and marketing of a comprehensive line of products for the separation, clarification, and purification of fluids and gases covering a range of markets. Products and applications specific for our Biopharmaceutical Purification business are designed to address critical needs in the processing and purification of pharmaceuticals including recombinant proteins and other pharmaceutical targets.

The person hired for this position will develop, deploy and optimize manufacturing processes for innovative, advanced materials-based new products in the SPSD Biopharmaceutical Purification business unit. The employee will have an opportunity to work with a variety of 3M and SPSD technologies, such as high-energy radiation processing, nonwovens, membranes and injection molding. The employee will work on a variety of projects with multiple corporate laboratories, manufacturing plants, equipment vendors and materials suppliers. The employee will gain experience in developing processes and products for an evolving regulated market following medical device design and design control framework.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Leveraging experience with existing 3M technologies and develop new manufacturing processes, as needed, in support of new product development.

  • Developing, deploying and optimizing manufacturing processes to support new product launches.

  • Leading multi-disciplinary teams through the process development process.

  • Utilizing appropriate engineering methods as well as theoretical and empirical techniques in the design of new processes.

  • Preparing technical reports documenting work performed. Present results, conclusions and recommendations to 3M personnel and customers, as needed.

  • Conducting cost-benefit analysis on various manufacturing operations and develop consensus recommendations based upon sound economic analysis.

  • Determining equipment requirements and assist in the development of capital expenditure requests (AFEs) as required for new process development and capacity expansion projects.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in a science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution

  • Minimum of five (5) years combined manufacturing, laboratory and/or engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Science from an accredited institution

  • Experience with one or more of the following: injection molding and/or polymer processing, chemical processing, high energy radiation processing, web handling.

  • Experience developing and deploying new manufacturing processes and/or technologies

  • Ability to work both independently and in cross-functional teams to complete projects

  • Strong organizational skills and experience in project man

  • Analysis

  • Experience working in regulated markets and/or industries

  • Experience developing and/or commercializing new products

  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) and Statistical

Location: Columbia, MO

Travel: May include up to 20% domestic/international travel

Relocation: Is authorized
