Crop Efficiency & Disease Discovery Intern

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this role, Crop Efficiency and Disease Discovery Intern, are to:

  • Report into the Crop Efficiency and Disease Discovery team in Bayer Crop Science Biotech Division;

  • Be self-motivated, have strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrate problem solving abilities, and be leaders among their peers;

  • Collate and analyze large quantitate genetic, genomic, sequence and physiology data sets to discovery new insights into gene/allele to trait correlations;

  • Work on expert level application of quantitative genetics, genomics and bioinformatics;

  • Work on expert level application of data science and informatics to manage data sets and analytics;

  • Understand molecular genetics to formulate hypotheses for allele effects in germplasm;

  • Work on interpretation of gene to trait correlations;

  • Work on Data Collection, analysis methods and statistics;

  • Work on plant physiology and trait biology;

  • Have communication and collaboration across organizations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in a Ph.D. or Post-Doctoral program;

  • Major or Minor focus on Data Science, genomics or informatics;

  • Ability to build relationships and work well in a team-based environment;

  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization;

  • Self-motivated with a strong results orientation;

  • Demonstrate ability to manage a deadline while being able to focus on details;

  • Strong problem-solving skills and an ability to organize (thoughts, data, etc.);

  • Excellent computer skills related to data acquisition and record keeping;

  • Demonstrated leadership ability;

  • Desire to learn and willing to ask questions and able to adapt to change.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Pursing a degree in Biology, Plant Science, Breeding or Crop Science experience in quantitative genetics;

  • Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Quantitative genetics or bioinformatics course work.
